Website copywriting

Words that explain what you do, show why you are the right choice and make it easy to get in touch. Written from a proper briefing with you, in your voice.

Most websites are stuck on the copy

The design is signed off, the developer is ready, and the pages are still empty. Writing about your own business is hard. You know too much, you are too close to it, and there is never time.

So the site launches with copy written in a rush, or not at all, and visitors leave without understanding what you do. We fix that by writing it with you.

What we write

Website pages

Homepages, service pages, about pages, team pages and contact pages.

Landing pages

Pages for ads and campaigns, written to match what the ad promised.

Shop copy

Category descriptions and product descriptions for your best sellers.

The small words

Buttons, form labels, error messages and confirmation emails. They decide whether people finish what they started.

A simple voice guide

A one-page guide to how your business sounds, so anyone writing for you afterwards stays consistent.

How it works

  1. 1

    Kick-off call

An hour with you to understand the business, your customers and what the website needs to do.

  2. 2

    Questionnaire

A short set of questions for you and your team, to capture the details that never come up in a call: prices, process, common objections, what customers say.

  3. 3

    Interviews

Where it helps, we speak to people on your team who deal with customers every day. [to confirm: whether you also interview customers]

  4. 4

    Research

We read your reviews, your competitors' sites and the questions people ask about your service, so the copy answers them.

  5. 5

    Page plan

Before we write, we agree what each page has to say and in what order. If we are designing the site too, this is planned with the wireframes, so the words and layout fit.

  6. 6

    First draft

Delivered in Google Docs, page by page, so you can comment directly.

  7. 7

    Edits

Two rounds of changes are included [to confirm]. Most clients need only one.

  8. 8

    Final copy

Ready to go into the site. If we are building it, we put it in for you.

How we write

01

Your customers' words, not ours

We use the way your customers describe their problem, taken from reviews, calls and interviews.

02

Specific, not vague

We use numbers, names and examples. "Same-day appointments in Marylebone" says more than "convenient service".

03

Plain English

Short sentences, no jargon unless your customers use it, and nothing you would be embarrassed to say out loud.

04

One job per page

Every page has one main thing it wants the visitor to do, and the copy leads there.

01

What is not included

This is a copywriting service for your website. We do not manage social media accounts or write social posts as part of it. We also do not write blog articles for SEO under this service. If you need SEO content, see our SEO service.

Honest limit: Copy cannot make up for an offer people do not want. If we think the offer is the problem, we will tell you during the kick-off call.

02

Copy that works with the design

Words and layout work best when they are planned together. When we design and build your site as well, the page plan, wireframes and copy are developed side by side, so headings fit the layout and every section has a reason to be there. See our web design service.

Most websites take two to four weeks from kick-off to final copy, depending on the number of pages and how quickly feedback comes back.

Yes. Send us your brand guidelines or examples you like, and we will match them. If you do not have a tone of voice yet, we will write a short guide.

Yes. We can write for a site another agency is building, and work with their designer on the layout.

Tell us what is not working. The edits are included, and we would rather rewrite a page than leave you with copy you are not happy with.

You do, once the project is paid for.
