The map pack is where local customers decide

When someone searches “nail salon near me” or “emergency plumber Islington”, Google often shows a map with three businesses above the website results. Those three get most of the calls. If you are not in them, most local customers never see you.

Local SEO is the work of getting into that map, and into the local results below it, for the searches and areas that matter to you. In London, where the competition changes from one street to the next, it takes more than a filled-in profile.

How Google decides who appears in the map

Google says it ranks local results on three things.

01

Relevance

How well your profile and website match the search. Your categories, services, descriptions and the pages on your site all count.

02

Distance

How far you are from the person searching, or from the area in their search. You cannot move your shop, so we focus on the two things you can change.

03

Prominence

How well known and trusted you are. Reviews, links, mentions in local press and directories, and your website's overall strength all feed it.

Our work is built around those three signals.

What our local SEO service includes

Google Business Profile management

We set up or rebuild your profile: the right primary and secondary categories, services, products, opening hours, photos and booking links. Then we keep it active with posts, offers, fresh photos and complete attributes, which Google’s AI answers in Maps draw on, and we watch for edits from the public that change your details without asking.

Reviews

Reviews affect both rankings and whether people choose you. We set up a simple way to ask every customer for a review, write templates for replies, and show you how your rating compares with nearby competitors.

We play it straight. Since April 2025, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act has made buying fake reviews, or hiding negative ones, illegal in the UK. Google’s own policy also bans asking only your happy customers. We ask everyone, and we answer every review, including the bad ones.

Citations and listings

Your business name, address and phone number need to be the same everywhere they appear. We fix mismatches and build listings on the directories that matter: Bing Places, Apple Business, Yelp, Yell, trade bodies and the sites in your industry. Bing Places feeds Microsoft Copilot, and Apple Business feeds Apple Maps and Siri, so these are worth more than they used to be.

Location and service pages

A single “areas we cover” page will not rank in ten boroughs. We build pages for the areas and services that bring in work, each with something real on it: the address or travel time, local reviews, photos from jobs in that area, and answers to local questions. No copy and paste pages with the borough name swapped.

Local schema and technical fixes

We add LocalBusiness structured data to your site so Google reads your address, hours and services correctly, and we fix the technical issues that stop local pages from ranking.

Local links and mentions

Local press, business groups, sponsorships, suppliers and neighbouring businesses. A handful of real local links does more than hundreds of directory links.

Local AI visibility

Ask ChatGPT or Google’s AI Mode for “the best blow dry bar near Oxford Circus” and the answer leans on map listings and reviews. We track how assistants describe your business and make sure the facts they find about you are correct.

Shop front, service area or several locations?

If customers come to you

salons, restaurants, clinics, shops

Your address is shown and distance from it matters. We focus on the streets and areas around you and on reviews.

If you go to customers

trades, cleaners, mobile services

Google calls you a service-area business. You hide your address and set the areas you cover. Your ranking still depends on where you are based, so we use location pages and links to win searches further out.

If you have several sites

If you have several sites each one needs its own verified profile, its own page on your website and its own reviews. We manage them together and report on each location separately.

How we work

  1. 1

    Local audit

    Weeks 1 to 2

We check your profile, citations, reviews, website and competitors, and run a geo-grid scan to see where you rank across your area.

  2. 2

    Fix the basics

    Month 1

Profile, categories, NAP mismatches, tracking for calls and direction requests.

  3. 3

    Build

    Months 2 to 4

Location pages, listings, review requests, local links.

  4. 4

    Track and grow

    Ongoing

Monthly geo-grid scans, a new plan each quarter, and new areas once the first ones pay back.

Geo-grid tracking

Rankings tracked street by street

A single ranking number tells you little in London. You might be first in the map on your own street and nowhere half a mile away. We use geo-grid tracking, which checks your map position from dozens of points across your area, so you see exactly where you are winning and where you are not.

You get it in your Data Studio dashboard alongside calls, website visits, direction requests and bookings from your profile.

01

What to expect

Profile fixes and category changes can move rankings within a few weeks. Reviews and listings build over two to four months. Location pages and local links take three to six months to reach their full effect. We set a target for each stage and show you progress every month.

Honest limit: If your business is far from the area people search in, there is a ceiling on how high you can rank in the map. We will tell you in the audit, and we will show you what we can win instead.

02

Profile suspended?

Google suspends profiles that break its guidelines, and sometimes ones that do not. Common causes are keyword-stuffed business names, addresses Google cannot verify and virtual offices with no staff on site. If your profile has been suspended, we work out why, fix it and handle the reinstatement request.

What our local SEO audit checks

  • Google Business Profile: categories, services, description, photos, hours, booking links, posts and attributes.
  • Map rankings across your area, from a geo-grid scan.
  • Reviews: how many, your rating, how recent they are and how you reply, compared with your nearest competitors.
  • Citations: your name, address and phone number on the main directories, and every mismatch.
  • Website: location pages, LocalBusiness schema, contact details and speed on mobile.
  • Local links: press, partners and groups that link to your competitors and not to you.
  • Tracking: calls, direction requests and bookings from your profile and your website.

The London markets we know best

Most of our local clients are salons and beauty businesses, hospitality, automotive services and shops, from Oxford Circus to the outer boroughs. In these markets the map pack, your reviews and your photos often decide who gets the booking, so that is where our work starts.

FAQs

Local SEO London: frequently asked questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask us and we will reply within one working day.

It depends on how many locations you have, how competitive your area is and how much your profile and website need. After the audit we give you a fixed monthly fee and a written scope.

Profile fixes can show results within a few weeks. Most clients see steady gains in the map over three to six months.

You can rank with a profile alone, but it is much harder. Your website is one of the main signals for relevance and prominence, and it is where most people check you out before they call.

Not with one location. Distance matters. We can win your own area strongly and reach further with location pages and links, and we will be clear about what is realistic.

Only if they break Google's policies, such as spam, conflicts of interest or offensive content. We can report those. For honest bad reviews, we help you reply well, which often does more good than removing them.

Yes. We set up and manage Apple Business and Bing Places alongside Google.

No. Plans start with a three month term and then roll monthly.

A live dashboard with map rankings by area, calls, direction requests, website visits and bookings, plus a monthly review call.

A check of your map ranking from many points across your area at once, shown as a grid on a map. It shows where you rank well and where you drop out, which a single ranking number cannot.

Yes. We run local SEO for businesses across the UK and in Dubai.
