SEO and AI search

Ecommerce SEO agency

SEO for Shopify and WooCommerce stores, measured in revenue. We fix the technical problems that hold stores back, then grow the category and product pages that sell.

Most stores have the same three problems

01

Google wastes its time on the wrong pages

Filters, sort orders and tag pages create thousands of near-duplicate URLs. Google crawls those instead of your products.

02

Category pages are thin

They are the pages that rank for buying searches like "women's running shoes", but most are a heading and a grid. Google has nothing to rank.

03

Nobody knows which pages make money

Without proper ecommerce tracking, SEO gets judged on traffic, not sales.

We fix all three, in that order.

What our ecommerce SEO service includes

Technical SEO for stores

We crawl the whole store and fix what stops Google from finding and trusting your products: duplicate product URLs, variant pages, broken pagination, redirect chains, orphan products with no internal links, and XML sitemaps full of pages that should not be there.

Faceted navigation gets special attention. Filters for size, colour and price are useful for shoppers, but each combination can create a new URL. We decide which filter pages deserve to rank, such as “black leather boots”, and keep the rest out of Google’s way with robots rules, canonical tags or a change to how the filters work. Google’s own crawling guidance recommends the same approach.

Category pages

Category pages win the searches with the most buyers. We map keywords to categories, add useful copy above and below the grid (sizes, materials, delivery, how to choose), set clear titles and headings, and link related categories so shoppers and Google can move between them. Where demand exists and no category does, we create one.

Product pages

Unique descriptions for the products that matter, written from what customers ask, not copied from the manufacturer. Clear titles with the details people search for (brand, model, size, colour). Reviews on the page. Images that load fast and have proper alt text.

Product structured data

Structured data lets Google show price, stock, ratings, delivery and returns in search results. We add and test Product schema with price, availability, brand, GTIN or MPN, review ratings, shipping details and your returns policy, and fix the warnings in Search Console.

Google Merchant Center and free listings

Products in your Merchant Center feed can appear for free in the Shopping tab, in Google Images and in product results on the main search page. Many stores only use the feed for ads. We set it up for free listings too, fix disapprovals and keep the feed in sync with your store.

Content that supports sales

Buying guides, comparisons and size guides that answer the questions people ask before they buy, each one linked to the categories it supports. We only write content that has a clear path to a product.

Site speed

Large images, heavy apps and plugins, and slow hosting cost both rankings and sales. We fix Core Web Vitals on the templates that matter: home, category, product and checkout.

Links and mentions

Product roundups, gift guides, supplier and brand pages, and press. We earn links that send buyers as well as authority.

Ecommerce tracking

We set up GA4 ecommerce events properly, from product view to purchase, so you can see revenue by landing page, category and search term. Every decision after that is based on sales.

Shopify and WooCommerce, side by side

We work on both every week, and we build on both. Each one needs a different approach.

Shopify WooCommerce
URL structure Fixed paths such as /products/ and /collections/. Themes often link to product URLs inside collections, which we clean up. Fully editable. We set clean product and category bases and remove clutter.
Duplicate pages Collection product URLs, tag pages, variant URLs Filter parameters, attribute archives, tag pages, pagination
Control robots.txt and theme code can be edited, but some core pages cannot be changed Full control of code, server and plugins
Speed Hosting handled by Shopify. Apps and theme code are the usual cause of slow pages Depends on hosting, theme and plugins. Cart scripts and plugin bloat are common causes
SEO tools Built-in settings plus apps Yoast SEO or Rank Math plus custom code
Best for Brands that want less maintenance Stores that want full control and fewer monthly fees

Store foundations

01

Keyword research for stores

Shoppers rarely search for a category name alone. They add the details that matter to them: brand, material, colour, size, style, who it is for and what it is for. “Women’s waterproof hiking boots” and “wide fit leather brogues” are both category searches, and both can be worth more than the broad term.

We group those searches into a structure of categories and filter pages that matches demand. Each page targets its own set of searches, and products sit where shoppers expect to find them.

03

Selling abroad

If you sell in more than one country, Google needs to know which version of the store to show where. We set up country or language versions in subfolders, add hreflang tags, show local currency and delivery details, and make sure each version has its own indexed pages. On Shopify that usually means Shopify Markets. On WooCommerce it means a translation plugin or a multisite setup.

Common ecommerce SEO mistakes we fix

  • Category pages accidentally set to noindex.
  • Filter pages indexed by the thousand.
  • Old product pages deleted instead of redirected.
  • Manufacturer descriptions copied across hundreds of products.
  • The same title on every variant.
  • Product details hidden in tabs that load only after a click.
  • Every old URL redirected to the homepage after a migration.

What a strong category page looks like

  1. 1A clear H1 matching the main search, such as "Women's running shoes".
  2. 2A short intro of a few lines above the grid: what the range covers and who it suits.
  3. 3Filters for the details people search by, with the useful ones crawlable.
  4. 4The product grid, best sellers first.
  5. 5Buying help below the grid: sizing, materials, delivery and returns, and how to choose.
  6. 6Questions customers ask, answered in a few lines each.
  7. 7Links to related and sub categories.
01

How we measure ecommerce SEO

Organic revenue and orders first, then the numbers that lead to them: clicks from non-brand searches, rankings for your priority categories, how many of your product pages Google has indexed, and conversion rate from organic visits. You see all of them in your dashboard, by category.

02

Moving platform without losing your rankings

Moving from Magento to Shopify, or from Shopify to WooCommerce, is where stores lose the most traffic. We map every old URL to its new one, move the content and structured data across, test the redirects before launch and watch Search Console daily for the first weeks. If we are building your new store too, SEO is part of the build from day one. See our web development service.

03

AI shopping results

ChatGPT now shows product results, and Google’s AI Mode builds shopping answers from its Shopping Graph, which draws on Merchant Center feeds, product pages and reviews. Clear product data, a clean feed and real reviews help you appear in both. We include them in every ecommerce plan.

Out of stock, discontinued and seasonal products

Deleting a product page throws away the rankings and links it has earned. We set rules for each case.

Temporarily out of stock

Keep the page live, mark it out of stock in the structured data, and show alternatives.

Discontinued for good

Redirect to the closest replacement or the parent category.

Seasonal

Keep seasonal categories live all year, such as Black Friday or Christmas gifts, so they build strength before the peak, and plan content two to three months ahead.

How we work

  1. 1

    Store audit

    Weeks 1 to 3

Technical crawl, category and product review, Merchant Center feed, tracking check and competitor gaps.

  2. 2

    90-day plan

Fixes ranked by revenue impact, not by how easy they are.

  3. 3

    Fix and track

    Months 1 to 2

Technical fixes, structured data and GA4 ecommerce tracking.

  4. 4

    Grow categories

    Months 2 to 6

Category copy, new categories, product pages and links.

  5. 5

    Review monthly

Revenue by page in your dashboard and a monthly call.

What to expect

Technical fixes and structured data often show in Search Console within weeks. Category improvements usually move rankings in two to four months. Organic revenue builds from there. Big stores with lots of duplicate pages can take longer, because Google needs time to recrawl them.

Honest limit: If your product range is the same as a hundred other resellers, with the same descriptions and prices, SEO alone will not beat Amazon. We will tell you where you can win, such as specialist categories, local delivery or your own brand.
