SEO and AI search

WooCommerce SEO agency

WooCommerce gives you full control of your store. That control is also why so many stores end up slow, cluttered and hard for Google to read. We fix it, then grow the pages that sell.

Why WooCommerce needs its own SEO

WordPress and WooCommerce are flexible. Add a few plugins, a theme with built-in filters and a few years of products, and a store can produce tens of thousands of URLs that nobody asked for. Google spends its time crawling those instead of your products. Pages slow down. Category pages compete with tag pages and attribute archives.

None of this shows up in a basic SEO plugin’s green ticks. It shows up in the code, the server logs and Search Console. That is where we start.

What our WooCommerce SEO service includes

01

Crawl and index clean-up

We find and fix the URLs that waste Google’s time.

  • Filter and sort parameters such as ?filter_colour=, ?orderby= and ?min_price=. We keep the filter pages worth ranking and block or canonicalise the rest.
  • Add-to-cart links (?add-to-cart=), which Google can crawl by the thousand.
  • Attribute and tag archives that duplicate your categories.
  • Cart, checkout and account pages, which should never be in search results.
  • Pagination on large categories, so every product can still be reached.
02

Clean URLs and site structure

WooCommerce lets you change the product and category bases (by default /product/ and /product-category/). We set a structure that is short and clear, plan the redirects if anything changes, and build category and subcategory levels that match how people search.

03

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Slow WooCommerce stores usually have the same causes: cheap shared hosting, too many plugins, heavy page builders, uncompressed images and cart scripts that run on every page. We fix them at the source. That means better hosting, server and object caching, a CDN, modern image formats, removing plugins you do not need and loading scripts only where they are used.

04

Yoast SEO or Rank Math, set up properly

Both work well when configured properly, and both cause problems when left on default settings. We pick the one that suits your store, set the templates for products and categories, control what gets indexed, and connect it to Search Console. We do not stack several SEO plugins on top of each other.

05

Product structured data

WooCommerce outputs basic Product schema. We extend it with brand, GTIN, shipping details, returns policy and review ratings, test it in Google’s Rich Results Test and fix the warnings in Search Console.

06

Category and product pages

Useful copy on category pages, unique descriptions on your best sellers, clear titles and internal links between related categories. Variable products stay on one URL, so the strength of the page is not split across sizes and colours.

07

Google Merchant Center feed

The Google for WooCommerce extension sends your products to Merchant Center for free listings and Shopping ads. We set it up or replace it with a better feed tool for large catalogues, and fix disapprovals.

08

Tracking

GA4 ecommerce events from product view to purchase, so you see revenue by landing page and category, as well as traffic.

09

Security and updates

An outdated plugin can get a store hacked, and a hacked store gets dropped from Google. We keep WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins up to date on a staging site first, then live. Louie leads this.

Our WooCommerce SEO checklist

The checks we run on every WooCommerce store.

  • Permalinks: clean product and category bases, no dates or IDs in URLs
  • Filter, sort and add-to-cart parameters kept out of the index
  • Cart, checkout and account pages set to noindex
  • Tag and attribute archives indexed only when they target real searches
  • One SEO plugin, configured, with templates for products and categories
  • XML sitemap listing only the pages that should rank
  • Product schema with brand, GTIN, price, stock, shipping and returns
  • Variable products on one URL, with the right price and stock per variant
  • Category copy above or below the product grid
  • Images compressed, sized and served in modern formats
  • Cart scripts loading only where they are needed
  • Plugins audited, with unused ones removed
  • Hosting with server caching, object caching and a CDN
  • Staging site and daily backups
  • GA4 ecommerce events checked against real orders
  • Merchant Center feed approved, with no errors
01

Hosting for WooCommerce

WooCommerce runs on your server, so hosting decides a lot of your speed. Shared hosting that is fine for a brochure site often struggles with a store. We recommend hosting with a current version of PHP, server and object caching, servers close to your customers, a CDN, a staging site and daily backups. We can manage it for you, or work with your existing host.

02

Selling in more than one language or country

We set up WooCommerce stores in several languages or countries with a translation plugin such as WPML or Polylang, translated URLs, hreflang tags, local currency and local delivery information, so each version can rank in its own market.

What a crawl of a WooCommerce store usually finds

  • Thousands of filter and sort URLs that Google has discovered
  • Add-to-cart links in the crawl
  • Tag pages with one or two products each
  • Old products deleted and returning errors
  • Images many times larger than they are shown
  • Several plugins doing the same job
  • Product schema missing brand, GTIN or shipping details

How we work

  1. 1

    WooCommerce audit

    Weeks 1 to 2

Full crawl, Search Console review, speed test, plugin audit, structured data and feed check.

  2. 2

    Fix plan

A list of fixes ranked by revenue impact, with time estimates.

  3. 3

    Technical fixes

    Months 1 to 2

We make the changes ourselves on a staging copy, test them and push them live. Your developer does not need to be involved, unless you want them to be.

  4. 4

    Grow

    Months 2 to 6

Category pages, product pages, content and links.

  5. 5

    Report monthly

Revenue by landing page in your live dashboard, plus a monthly call.

01

We build WooCommerce stores too

We make the fixes ourselves, because we are developers as well as SEOs. We build WooCommerce stores from scratch, rebuild slow ones and move stores from Shopify, Magento or other platforms to WooCommerce with every old URL redirected. If your store needs more than SEO, see our web development service.

02

What to expect

Crawl and speed fixes often show in Search Console within two to six weeks. Category and product improvements usually move rankings in two to four months, with organic revenue building over six to twelve months.

Honest limit: Sometimes a store is built on a theme or plugin set so heavy that fixing it costs more than rebuilding it. If that is the case, we will tell you in the audit and show you both options.

FAQs

WooCommerce SEO: frequently asked questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask us and we will reply within one working day.

Yes, when it is set up well. You get full control of URLs, code and hosting, which Shopify does not give you. The risk is that the same freedom lets a store get slow and cluttered.

Both are good. Yoast has a paid WooCommerce add-on; Rank Math includes more features in its free version. The settings matter more than the plugin.

It depends on the size of the store and how much technical work it needs. After the audit we give you a fixed monthly fee and a written scope.

Technical fixes show within weeks. Rankings for category pages usually move in two to four months.

Usually, yes. Hosting, caching, images and plugin clean-up fix most slow stores. If the theme is the problem, we will say so.

Yes, for the technical work. We make changes on a staging site first and keep backups, so nothing breaks on your live store.

No. Plans start with a three month term and then roll monthly.

Not always. Many themes can be fixed. If yours is the main cause of slow pages or messy code, we will show you the cost of fixing it against the cost of replacing it.

No. We test every change on a staging copy, including a test order, before it goes live.

Yes. We move products, categories, customers, orders and content, map every old URL to its new one and test the redirects before launch, to protect your rankings.
